Sight

Sight diminishes as age conquers the body.
the magic, the fairies, the monsters, the fey,
all seem to vanish or just slip away.

while children Sight mermaids, their hair jeweled and gaudy,
they always dismiss fins as sharks or fish.
they think all is made believe, just a child's wish.

they insist the children are lying and naughty.
imagination and wonders and miracles flee
their Sight, for everything, to them, has plausibility.

how can they understand when they are so haughty?
for some intriguing happenings of the world hold no explanation,
save when you ask a small girl with Sight, who has no hesitation.

she'll tell you with a Sight strong and not spotty,
"It's magic. The dwarfs are mad, but don't fear.
soon they'll stop fighting and water will appear."

they'll laugh. they'll call her a snotty
nosed kid. yet then, as sure are the sun,
you'll Sight the river rise up and then start to run.

Sight diminishes as age conquers the body.
for age holds imagination in an impenetrable cage,
where it is held back, unable to engage

the mind with Truth.

i really like the rhyme scheme on this one.

Only thing to improve would be the flow in some places i.e. you can use simpler words for sake of rhythm.

"for some intriguing happenings of the world hold no explanation" could be "for much that we marvel at holds no explanation" or "for the world works in ways that hold no explanation"
