A Winter Chill

Cruel winter shows her cold and dreary face,
casting a chill upon the earth's poor ground.
Dead leaves fly, running as laughing winds chase.
Scarves and hats are ripped away and not found.

White, deep, falling snow floats down to blanket.
The entire world in one great sweep is gone,
replaced by a snow world one can't forget.
The winter birds burst into glorious song.

Though dreary, wet, and cold winter may be,
new snow inspires happiness and glee.
